Reference Data

The Reference Data Project Team's mission is to establish reference data standards for the exchange between counterparties: structure & content, required in transactional XML, e.g. CQQ Inspection Data & Electronic Bills of Lading. Identify, adopt and when necessary develop standards solely for master reference data shared between counterparties in electronic documents - XML, e.g. counterparty, commodity, currency, etc. to support the requirements of LEAP’s transactional teams. [Presently the establishment of standards for transactional variables, e.g. quantity, amount, et al and the development of entity classes, metadata, hierarchies, transactions, et al is the task of the transactions teams..]

Preliminary Tasks:

A. Build Data Glossary

  • Determine reference data required for eBL XML
  • Add reference data required for CQQ Inspection Data XML
  • Publish, on the member’s web site, a 1.0 version Data Glossary initially using MS Excel for the above transactions consisting of data element, definition, LEAP standard [acronym, value list, format], synonyms, UN & API standards

B. Determine Data Standards

  • Add cross-references for API PIDX, EFET, EI, et al to the Data Glossary
  • Adopt or establish a LEAP standard for each data element where an acceptable standard is unavailable
  • Publish a new 1.1 version of the Data Glossary

C. Add other existing & future transactional XML, e.g. contracts, settlements, etc.

  • Reference Data Services
    - Encourage providers to develop solutions and/or services to provide for the collection, maintenance and distribution of reference data addressing the following:
    • Data availability on a subscription basis by category e.g. counterparty related, commodity related, etc.
    • Data collected from disparate vendor sources, e.g. Fair Play, Q88, World Scale, etc. and via user applications or direct entry e.g. counterparty specific trading authorizations, contact info, etc.
    • Collection and maintenance of data not presently available electronically, e.g. barge data, OPIS data, etc.
    • Validation & audit of reference data
    • Redistribution of reference data in near real time or periodically using standardized XML providing for initial downloads, updates and refreshes and user access
    • Possible translation and distribution services
